this information is probably on this section already, but I am tired and getting stressed from work...

Anyway...family arrives into Belgrade on Saturday afternoon. We will get a taxi home from the airport, but was wondering if I can just get a bus out to the airport? If so, which one, where from and all that business...haven't had much luck with buses so far, so keep it simple stupid... ;)

Thanks

Bus 72 leaves from Zeleni Venac to the airport every half hour or so, it takes a while to get there and is not very frequent but it does exist and is the cheapest way to get out to the airport, just allow enough time to get there, it stops across the street from Bridge Pub at Zeleni Venac where most of the city buses terminate.

Other solution is the more expensive JAT bus that goes from Slavija in front of whatever hotel is there.

why go through all the trouble of taking a bus to the airport when cabs in Belgrade are so cheap and will cost 800 you dinars with popust ( when you call by phone) from the city center to the aerodrom..

Here's a map of bus/tram lines:

Here's the schedule:

I don't know where you live so take a look at the map and click the second link for more info.

Because I am being tight...I don't want to pay for a taxi there and then back again, and then probably out to dinner again etc...
I don't have anything else to do on Saturday so thought I might as well check out the buses, doesn't matter if I have to spend time on the bus...*although if I go out on Friday night, might be hungover...lol*
will have to look on pub to see where Zeleni Venac is then. Thanks for that.

A bonus with taking bus 72 is that you will see some serious outskirts of Belgrade, lots of gypsy shanty towns and horrible unmaintained roads and houses, its quite the "trip" :)

Shamanic, there is a JAT airport bus that leaves pretty regularly from Slavia (I believe).

Alright man, suit yourself ;) Zeleni venac is easy to find its not too far from terazije and knez mihailova, it's a big market and you have a Mcdonalds there.

Think I have found it on my map. :) after much hair pulling and squinting.
I have seen that JAT bus from Slavia, I not far from there...any idea of cost on that? *off to google*

The JAT bus is 250 RSD one-way, and I believe it leaves every hour; bus 72 is the regular 42 dinar ticket but a bit less regular/direct (takes about 30-45 minutes when it's running on time), and easy to miss if you aren't alertly looking up and down Zeleni Venac since it doesn't seem to pull up at the 72 sign, but a bit further down the road.
Also, depending on what time your family is arriving, you'll want to allow plenty of time for traffic -- it's gotten pretty backed up on Brankov Most lately due to the Gazela situation.

as far as I remember a single ticket is 200-250 dinars...

One thing that hasn't been mentioned in this thread and sorry if you already know this but you MUST NOT take a taxi from the lower level (arrivals area) of the airport. They are all illegal taxis and will cost you a few thousand to get into town. Call a taxi and wait for them on the arrivals level.

Yeah I knew I had to do something like going upstairs to get a taxi danilo, thanks for reminding me though.
Looking forward to seeing them, been 5 weeks...

This perhaps deserves wider sharing (a new thread perhaps) but there is a Taxi strike scheduled for 23rd Feb. Last time they went on strike was just before Christmas and coincidently on the day I was flying home, I didn't know the strike was on until 2hrs before my flight. I caught the 72 and it goes a windy way to the airport but I was SO relieved and it safes stacks of money. Unsure of its frequency but I was really lucky and caught one with about 20 other anxious looking travellers trying to escape Belgrade for Christmas. I was lucky. If your fit you could get a 601 (check that) that takes you, nearly to the airport, just leaves you with a mile walk but i have noted some people doing that and I did it (coz I wanted to stretch my legs) on an occassion of dropping someone off at the airport.

The Jat bus from Slavija Square (it stops literally right in front of the Slavija Hotel) departs every hour, on the hour. eg. 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, etc. and costs 250 dinars (one-way). It's a very nice civilised way to get to the airport, and it's never once let me down or even turned up late. I find myself using it even when I can expense the cab ride as it's so stress free and comfortable.

Well I took the Jat bus, was 250 dinars. Very easy to do and was fine. Bus was virtually empty as well. Did get a taxi from upstairs as well...they are persistent downstairs aren't they?

I got the 72 bus from the airport to town today. It was fine. Caught the bus at 10am, with the walk home, and stopping for some shopping I was home by 11.30. So not too bad really.
