Hi everyone!

I've been living in Belgrade for some time now but I never got around to sorting out my health insurance. I work and have the required visa. I'd like to pay those social security payments - I belive that also covers the state health care and I would get the little health booklet. Am I right?

I *know* I really should have sorted this out a long time ago - but you know how things can drag on and thankfully I haven't become seriously ill (knock on wood).

Can anyone point me in the right direction, where to go, what I may need? As a Brit am I actually already covered through some agreement? (I think I read something about that). Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi there,

I'm sure some later responses will be a little more helpful... but is this an issue you can deal with at work? Is your workplace recognized by the government? For example, my workplace wasn't recognized by the government for decades... but several years ago when they decided to change this, that's when the taxation/social services kicked in for permanent residents.

That's my only thought for you!

Good luck. :)

Hey thanks for your response :)

My work place is recognised by the government, I'm sure, but the social security/health insurance stuff isn't covered by them automatically. I work on an ugovor o delu basis.

All I know is that I need to go sort it out myself! But not entirely sure where to start - perhaps down at the visa office near the police station dealing with visas and foreigners?

Anyone else able to help? I'd really appreciate some insight from other foreigners living in Belgrade :)

This is definitely something that is arranged by your employer (if you are permanently employed) or the unemployment office if you are not.

I am not sure how contractors (ugovor o delu) are covered, but your company HR must be able to tell you.

If you are a citizen of the EU, and you have an E11 card (I think its E11), even if you are outside of Europe you can claim back routine medical expenses incurred overseas. That is one to check with the UK Department of Health helpline.

Hope that helps.
